The other day I was struck by the amazing careers my friends and family (aka my peeps) have. I have friends that run companies to clean up the earth, nurses and CRNA’s on the frontline of this crazy pandemic, Directors of local agencies that give life altering therapy and teach life skills to those in need, manufacturing personnel making car components at factories, financial advisors to manage retirement needs, gym owners that help clients with health/wellness, and so many more with careers that have esteemed societal meaning and contribution.
Then, I did the worst thing anyone could do, for a few minutes I began undermining and comparing what I do as a Real Estate Broker to everyone else. I began framing my career as something less important. Finding homes or commercial space for clients sounded a little trivial for a second. But then the epiphany came…I find a place for each and every friend, family member and client to live, work and play. This really struck me because each and everyone of these impressive careers are stressful, beautiful, gut wrenching, exhausting, exhilarating, and at times mundane. Every one of these individuals needs a safe space to go home to, and I help them find this sacred place.
Our homes and work environments are more important than ever. We each need a retreat from our external world to feel inspired whether it’s to cook a great meal for our peeps, have a place to gather to watch a game or cozy up for a favorite movie. I don’t just sell homes. I help my people find a nest to build their spiritual and physical wealth. They celebrate birthdays, holidays, and mourn their losses in these nests. I know this is my purpose, and on paper some might think what I do is just show houses and close on deals. The truth is, every property we view is seen through the client’s eyes as a place for their life to unfold; a place where their dreams and heartbreaks will be shared. I am here through every step to get my clients into that space. So, while the work I do isn’t life saving in the traditional sense, I would say your home is life-giving. Your nest or place of work impacts life daily, and that is more than enough to fill my heart with joy.
